🦑 REFHE: Another Innovation with the Ika Seal 🦑
@ikadotxyz and @dWalletLabs released a paper a few hours ago outlining a new innovation they've achieved. The document is 57 pages long and would probably break your brain trying to understand it, so I'll translate it all for you.
REFHE is a new type of Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE). This is an advanced encryption method that allows calculations to be performed directly on encrypted data, without needing to decrypt it first. Imagine having a safe with your data locked inside, but you can still perform calculations on that data without opening the safe. This is super useful for protecting sensitive information, such as in banks, hospitals, or blockchains, where privacy is crucial.
What sets REFHE apart is that it was designed to work with large numbers (called "machine words," such as 64-bit numbers, common in computers) and supports both arithmetic operations (such as addition and multiplication) and logical operations (such as comparisons, for example, "is greater than?"). This is like having a calculator that does normal math and also handles questions like "if this, then that," all on encrypted data.
REFHE is like a "Swiss Army knife" for homomorphic encryption. It allows computer programs (such as those used in blockchains, databases, or artificial intelligence) to run securely on encrypted data, without needing to significantly change the original code.
For example:
♦️In blockchains: You can create smart contracts that perform complex calculations (such as adding values or comparing conditions) without exposing users' private data.
♦️In banks: A bank can calculate interest or check balances without needing to decrypt customer information.
♦️In healthcare: Hospitals can analyze encrypted medical data to find patterns without compromising patient privacy.
REFHE is more efficient than other solutions because:
♦️It supports large numbers (like those used in modern computers) without significant performance losses.
♦️It performs logical and arithmetic operations with fewer computational resources.
♦️It reduces the impact of noise, allowing more calculations to be performed before bootstrapping is necessary.
